farmerswife System Requirements & Compatibility (v7.2 and later)

To ensure smooth and reliable operation of your farmerswife Server and Client applications, please make sure your hardware and operating systems meet the requirements below.

1. Server Requirements

1.1. Server Hardware Requirements

For best performance, we strongly recommend running the farmerswife Server on a dedicated machine.

Processor

• A fast CPU (3 GHz+) with substantial L2/L3 cache
• The Server uses one core, so choose high GHz over multiple slower cores
• Intel CPUs are recommended over AMD
• Applies equally to physical and virtualized environments
  

Memory

• Minimum 3 GB RAM per fw Server instance
• Additional 1 GB for the operating system
• Recommended: 6–12 GB RAM for medium to heavy usage

Storage

• SSD strongly recommended for optimal performance and faster backups
• Minimum 60 GB free disk space plus storage for your data needs
• If using HDDs, choose fast SAS (15,000 rpm) with at least 16 MB cache
• Store full backups on a separate drive or network share

Network

• Local network speeds of 100 Mbit or higher
• Slow latency, especially with VPN or cloud-hosted servers, affects user performance more than bandwidth

Screen Resolution (Server)

• Minimum: 1024 × 768
• Recommended: 1280 × 1024

1.2. Supported Operating Systems (Server)

Windows

• Windows Server 2025 (64-bit)
• Windows Server 2022 (64-bit)
• Windows 11 Pro (and later)

macOS
Compatible with:

• macOS Tahoe 26 (fw v7.2.1002 / 7.3.8 and later)
• macOS Sequoia 15
• macOS Sonoma 14
• macOS Ventura 13
• macOS Monterey 12
• macOS Big Sur 11
• macOS Catalina 10.15
• macOS Mojave 10.14

Launching the Server for the first time (macOS):
Use Right-click > Open twice (or sometimes three times) to allow macOS security verification.

Linux
The only tested and maintained distribution:

• Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS (supported until April 2027)
• Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

‼️ A skilled Linux administrator is required for Linux deployments.

1.3. Java Requirements (Server)

farmerswife Web Client and Mobile Web Client require Java / OpenJDK 17.

• Install OpenJDK 17 (recommended over Oracle Java)
• Avoid automatic Java updates, as they may interrupt web services
• Remove legacy Java versions (1.6 / 1.7 / 1.8)
• Instructions for replacing Oracle Java with OpenJDK are available in our documentation.

2. Client Requirements

• 2.1. Client Hardware Recommendations

• CPU: Intel 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo or better
• RAM: Minimum 1 GB available RAM. Heavy users or large databases may require 3–4+ GB
• Screen Resolution:
  • Minimum: 1200 × 800
  • Recommended: 1280 × 1024 or higher

Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4)
The fw Server and Client run smoothly on Apple Silicon using Rosetta 2 — often even faster than on Intel Macs.

64-bit Client

The fw Client is 64-bit by default (since v6.6).

Launching the Client (macOS Big Sur and later)
You may need to use Right-click > Open twice when launching for the first time.

2.2. Supported Operating Systems (Client)

Windows

• Windows 11
• Windows 10 / 10 Pro (64-bit)
• Windows Server 2025 / 2022 / 2019 / 2016

macOS

3. iOS App Requirements

farmerswife iOS app version 7.2 requires iOS 13 or later

Available on the Apple App Store (search: farmerswife)

4. Web Client & Mobile Web Client
Optimized for:

• Safari
• Chrome
• Firefox
• Microsoft Edge

Mobile Web Client is optimized for Chrome on Android, Windows Mobile, and similar devices.

5. Supported farmerswife Versions

We actively support:

• 7.0
• 7.1
• 7.2 (current – soon to be replaced by 7.3)

Customers with a valid support contract should upgrade to one of these versions.

If your support contract has expired, please contact farmerswife Sales to renew and regain upgrade access.

We address bugs and improvements on: the current release, and the next version in development

6. Authentication Notes (Secure Cookies)

From version 7.2, farmerswife uses secure cookies for Web Client and Mobile Web Client authentication.

If login problems occur:

Update the host OS or apply the local patch using the HTTP_XML_AUTH_MODE server.cfg variable

Instructions are provided in the documentation.

7. Legacy Version Information

32-bit Support: Version 6.8 was the last version to support:

• 32-bit fw Server (Mac & Windows)
• 32-bit fw Client (Mac & Windows)

Older macOS versions no longer supported

• macOS High Sierra 10.13
• macOS Sierra 10.12
• OS X El Capitan 10.11
• OS X Yosemite 10.10

Very old versions (no longer supported at all):
OS X 10.9 Mavericks
OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
OS X 10.7 Lion

OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (cannot run required Java)

These systems should be upgraded at your earliest convenience.
